Tenants at Spring Hill Apartments said they’re victims of a cockroach infestation so severe that it’s disrupting their mail delivery and their lives while an out-of-state landlord does little to address the problem.
Blake Hunter, vice president of the Michigan-based Independent Management Services — the firm managing the property — said it’s unfair “to say the building is infested with cockroaches.”
A spokesperson for the United States Postal Service said via email, “Delivery has been temporarily suspended due to concerns of pests in the mail room. USPS has been in communication with the apartment building management about the issue. Delivery will resume once the safety issue has been resolved.”
Hunter said pest control efforts are ramping up with increased treatment intervals because of the reports from residents.
“We actually made a change within the last month to a different company which sometimes we have to do after so long that they sort of will sometimes lose their will to perform,” he said. “Every year or two, we generally make a pest control change. Also, a lot of companies will use different types of chemicals, so that’s kind of effective.”
