KANSAS CITY, Mo. —
Family, friends and fellow postal workers gathered Sunday afternoon to honor 34-year-old Gerald Nevels.
Nevels, a longtime USPS employee, was killed in a hit-and-run crash earlier this week in Kansas City.
The community held a balloon release at 30th Street and Benton Boulevard, the same intersection where Nevels was killed Wednesday night while working his mail route.
Loved ones released balloons near a growing memorial as they remembered Nevels as a dedicated postal worker, public servant and family man.
Sunday’s honor also drew members of the National Association of Letter Carriers and other USPS employees, who said Nevels’ death has deeply affected postal workers across Kansas City.
