Leaving his stamp: Sal Oddo retiring after 47 years with Postal Service

STAFFORD — Sal Oddo will be behind the counter for the final time today taking letters, cards, packages and other items people need to send out at the post office at 8899 Morganville Rd.

It will be people’s last chance to greet him at work before he retires after nearly 47 years on the job in Batavia and Stafford — 38 in Batavia and almost 9 in Stafford.

“The only reason I moved here is because this is part of the Batavia post office,” he said. “They call it an RMPO (Remotely Managed Post Office) — it means it’s connected to the Batavia post office.

“I get a lot of people because everybody knew me in Batavia and they come over here now,” the 74-year-old said Thursday standing in front of the counter where a balloon that read “47” was near him and a banner wishing him a happy retirement was taped to the counter.
