Kinsman woman receives holiday card — six years late

A Kinsman woman was shocked to receive her first Christmas card of the year from a family member living a few miles away, seeing that the calendar still read October.

Rebecca Nieminen said she could tell it was a card inside the envelope, but she became concerned for the family member when it arrived nearly two months early.

Nieminen said she opened the envelope and saw it was a Christmas card, and looked it over. She also called the family member in nearby Andover to make sure everything was alright.

Nieminen then noticed the postmark on the envelope — “CLEVELAND, OHIO PM 15 DEC 2020.”

The holiday wishes were mailed nearly six years ago, even though the card arrived this week. The card had been lost somewhere in the postal system, discovered, and ultimately delivered.

21 News reached out to the post office and the media representative said, “Cases like this are extremely rare. However, if an occasion such as this occurs, we ensure any recovered mailpiece is delivered immediately.”
