Johnson pushes for mail to stay in South Dakota

In May, word broke that the Huron and Sioux Falls distribution centers would be downsized, and mail originally processed through those centers would be processed through Omaha. Since then, the USPS received a lot of backlash, with Representative Dusty Johnson leading the way.

The postal service recently announced it will not be changing the services at the Sioux Falls post office.

”We’ve been telling the postal service that closing facilities, or really shrinking facilities in Huron and Sioux Falls was not going to improve mail delivery. We have won that argument at least for the time being. We made it clear to them that if they couldn’t prove to us that this would help, they could not move forward. They finally agreed with us and that is a big win for South Dakota,” Johnson said.

Johnson noted the changes the USPS claimed would speed up delivery times, did the opposite, and emphasized the importance this decision will have on South Dakota mail delivery going forward.
