ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – A pile of undelivered mail was discovered in a vacant lot in north St. Louis, with some pieces dated as far back as January.
The mail was found in a lot near Maffitt Avenue and North Taylor Avenue. The Postal Service said it is investigating how the mail ended up there and plans to attempt delivery.
Steve Moore lives near the vacant lot where the mail was dumped.
“Yeah, I’ve missed out on quite a few pieces of mail, bills mainly. You know. I’ve been waiting on my water bill to get to me now,” Moore said.
Hundreds of envelopes were found in the mound. The earliest postmark found was in January.
Many of the addresses are for north St. Louis, but some are for south St. Louis and some addresses are as far away as Ferguson.
The mail includes bills from Ameren, Spire and Missouri American Water. A Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance card was found, along with mail from banks and insurance companies.
Sheila O’Keefe, a postal customer from Ferguson, said her husband used a credit card for Christmas shopping and the bill might be in the mound.
