Henderson, NV post office closes temporarily due to discovery of mercury

HENDERSON (KTNV) — The Henderson Main Post Office closes temporarily due to the discovery of mercury in their office on Thursday.

At around 2:43 p.m., the Henderson Fire Department received a HAZMAT call when employees found half a tablespoon of mercury.

This caused an emergency suspension of the office, not a permanent closure.

More details will be provided on the reopening of the post office.

The building was evacuated, and no injuries have been reported.

It’s unknown why the mercury was sent to the post office, but the United States Postal Service is reminding customers that mercury metal and devices containing mercury are always prohibited from mailing.
