Hawley Demands Postmaster General Return Bonus or Resign After Attempt to Evade Accountability

WASHINGTON — U.S. Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) released the following statement, urging the Postmaster General David Steiner to resign unless he commits to forego bonuses until mail delivery to Missourians is timely. Hawley’s statement comes after the Postmaster General wrote a letter to Senator Hawley attempting to shift blame and evade accountability.

Last week, Senator Hawley grilled the Postmaster General over why he accepted large bonuses for himself while Missourians’ mail fails to be delivered. The Postmaster General punted accountability after Senator Hawley questioned him in a Senate Homeland Security Committee hearing last week over his agency’s dismal service in Missouri, which included the dumping of a massive pile of mail in St. Louis.

The Truth

Steiner is not only a failure in his position at the USPS, the guy’s a full fledged liar. He deserved what he got and actually deserves more, I don’t care where the heck he was raised. The purported hiring freeze he supposedly confirmed is a lie, as are the phony scores he constantly refers to, regardless of region. RTO doesn’t affect delivery, he says, only collections. There are many others. He’s actually increased management head count, despite falling volumes, yet states that the headcount has decreased. On and on we can go. I don’t know where in the south he’s from, but in the south I was raised in a liar gets their tail kicked. Southerners can read a room better than most. This guy’s a phony.

Back your statements up please. It is fine to dislike the guy, but your false statements affect more than him. You are saying the Local Services teams across the country reporting the actual date are liars? You are saying the plants sending out “incoming” mail are liars? And the cancellation of hundreds of external non frontline positions is a lie? It is all pretty well documented.

The Truth

My comments are directed to Steiner and perhaps his staff. But since you make the leap to plant employees for whatever reason, I’ll enlighten you. My statements are true. Despite Steiner’s false statements, there is no hiring freeze at the USPS. With non career turnover at 60%, they have to hire. Steiner was asked in his appearance before Session’s subcommittee about RTO delaying delivery by I believe Mr Frost. Steiner’s reply was that RTO “affected collections not delivery.” That is an untruth. Steiner claims to not know about any OIG reports, especially St Louis, that consistently find delayed mail, even after a US Senator sends him a letter informing him of it and wanting answers. I guess it’s possible that the letter never made it, especially with service these days, but my inclination is that he wasn’t honest. Either way looks bad; knowing and lying about it or not knowing. Since you’re in the know, please list any OIG report that hasn’t found serious issues, especially delayed mail, at any LPC, P and DC, or RPDC. Steiner also says the headcount is down, but fails to mention that management and headquarters numbers have increased, despite falling volumes. Apparently, some EAS staff in your facility have been eliminated judging by your comments, and maybe that’s why the mail isn’t being moved. There is one lesson most EAS employees learn sooner or later, and that is higher ups will get you to do more for the same pay. Complain and you’re not a team player and there goes your promotion. If you move the mail or facilitate it’s processing, then I salute you. If you don’t, most likely you’re part of the problem.

You are right on the money. Making realistic statements is often touted as being negative or complaining or not being a “team player”. Many promotions are still based on favoritism, nepotism, and cronyism.

Sometimes, the truth hurts.

The only thing the USPS does well is Lie!!!!
Have never told the truth.
We have a PM that shows up to work every Saturday
in her PJs.
I once overheard a 204b telling another that PM comes
in to change the numbers for Fridays.
So they look better then they are.
She comes in every Saturday.
Good luck getting the truth??
