Family prays killer will be arrested in Alabama postal worker’s 2009 murder

CAMP HILL, Ala. (WSFA) – Camp Hill is a small town in Tallapoosa County with a population of just over 1,000 people. Everyone knows each other with generations of families living here. On a Sunday, most people head out to church and on Monday, they’re back at work.

There’s one single post office in town, right along Main Street. That’s where Tony Harrelson was working in 2009 when he was murdered.

“I think it was a lot of a shock because this is such a small town. I don’t think anyone here has dealt with something of this magnitude,” his daughter, Jennifer Reeder said.

Her father, Tony Harrelson, was shot and killed on the job, on Oct. 2, 2009. He was a postal service contract worker and was behind the building near his truck when it happened. It’s believed he was shot between 5:45 p.m. and 6:15 p.m.

“He was just a very kind person, very hardworking,” Jessalyn Chaney, his daughter said. “That’s what he was doing that day. My dad was at work when he was robbed, and we understand that he was shot and that money was taken.”

The shooting happened at the first of the month and investigators initially said it was eerily similar to other robberies in the area. At the time, the United States Postal Service was investigating two other robberies—one at a Troy post office and the other at a Hope Hull office.
