Family of slain Texas postal worker mourns in Central Florida

DELTONA, Fla. – Kevin Hines’ family describes him as a loving father and a passionate motivator.

“He always pushed me to be better,” said Marquis, Kevin’s son.

But now, Hines’ son will have to live without one of his biggest supporters.

“He dropped (him) off that day at school in the morning, and he never saw him again. He waited for text messages that never got a reply back,” said Stephanie Rivera, Marquis’s mom.

Hines was shot killed Monday while on the job at U.S. Postal Service regional processing facility in Missouri City, Texas.

His alleged killer, Derrick Lott, a postal employee, is now behind bars on a $2 million bond.

“It was three in the morning. I stayed home alone,” Marquis said.

“Then he called me and said, ‘I haven’t seen Dad, I haven’t heard from Dad and the cops are at the door,‘” Rivera said.
