The family of a Chicago letter carrier killed in a July hit-and-run is demanding justice, while her union is renewing calls for stronger protections for postal workers.
Churone Walls, 47, was off duty and riding a scooter when she was struck July 24 in the 2200 block of West 79th Street, according to Chicago police and her family.
Darryl Short, 45, is charged with one felony count of reckless homicide and one felony count of leaving the scene of an accident involving injury or death. Police allege Short was driving at a high rate of speed when he struck Walls and fled. He was arrested on August 25.
Walls’ relatives and fellow letter carriers gathered Wednesday as Short appeared in court.
