Dorchester postal worker taken to hospital after substance leaks from package

A post office employee in Dorchester was taken to the hospital early Friday morning after an incident caused by a leaking package, Boston police said.

At around 6:30 a.m., officers responded to the Grove Hall Post Office at 647 Warren St. for a report of a package that leaked during the scanning process, according to Officer Michael Torigian.

The substance that leaked came into contact with the employee’s skin, and they later reported feeling itchy.

Boston EMS responded to the scene and brought the employee to a hospital to be evaluated, police said.

The Boston Fire Department determined that the substance is a non-hazardous “soap type product,” but further details were not immediately available.
