DEWITT — A DeWitt postal carrier received the highest honor from the United States Postal Service for coming to the aid of an injured citizen while delivering mail this past December.
Margo Powers, 22, originally from Charlotte, received the Postmaster General Hero Award Tuesday morning, March 24, while surrounded by her coworkers during a ceremony at the DeWitt Post Office on South Bridge Street.
The award was the result of Powers’ actions when she was working her residential route in December and heard a car alarm going off. As she got closer to the alarm, Powers heard cries for help and saw an elderly woman on the ground next to her van.
