Community Rallies To Help Support Mail Lady Arrested After Reportedly Trying To Help ICE Detainee Flee

WESTHAMPTON, NY — The community has come together in suppport of a postal worker who was arrested after trying to help someone escape, after he was detained by ICE in Westhampton recently during a federal immigration removal proceeding.

A GoFundMe page, “Support Our Community Member Tamara Mayorga-Wong,” was created by Anita Boyer.

“I am Anita, a community member who is working to help people affected by ICE in our area,” she wrote. “I have set up this GoFundMe to help her offset living expenses during this time. All funds will go directly to Tamara to be used by her for living expenses while she deals with the fallout from her courageous act standing up against unidentified, masked men abducting a member of her community. I stand with her, and I hope you will as well.”

According to the GoFundMe page: “Protecting her community was the only thing on her mind and heart. Please help to raise money to offset expenses for Tamara Mayorga-Wong. Chaos and fear poured over the East End on Nov 5 when ICE showed up in Westhampton to pull community members off the streets without warrants. Eight people are still unaccounted for from the from Nov 5 ICE action,” the page said.
