Community mourns loss of post office worker killed while walking in Northern Kentucky

FORT THOMAS, Ky. (WXIX) – The Fort Thomas community is mourning a post office worker who was hit and killed by a car while walking in Bellevue on Oct. 15.

Marchelle Bertram worked at the front desk of the Fort Thomas Post Office for years, helping people who came in. Her daughter, Whitney Bertram, said she has seen a large amount of support since her mother’s death.

“There’s so many people I don’t know whose lives she’s touched and affected,” Whitney told FOX19 NOW.

The incident happened while Marchelle was walking on Memorial Parkway near her home.

Whitney said she rushed to the hospital after learning her mother had been hit by a vehicle.

“Given the grave amount of injuries she sustained, there was no way she was going to survive,” she said.

Marchelle died in the hospital. Whitney said the driver stayed at the scene and believes the crash was an accident.

“I miss her like crazy, I try not to think about it too hard because I’ll break down,” she said.

People have contacted Whitney on social media to say her mother was kind and well-known in the area. A woman at the post office began crying when she learned of Marchelle’s death.
