RIDGEFIELD — A vehicle crashed into a post office Wednesday, resulting in significant damage to the building and one person being sent to the hospital, according to a fire official.

Ridgefield Assistant Fire Chief Tony Cerulli said the fire department was called to the building on Catoonah Street on Wednesday morning.

“Our first priority was making sure the patient received care and that the scene was safe for everyone on site,” Cerulli said. “With the structural damage, we worked quickly to secure the building until postal officials and inspectors could take over.”

The post office is closed for the day, he said.
