MARTINSBURG – Over a dozen mail trucks lined Tennessee Avenue early Thursday morning to honor Sherry Tachoir, a 32-year veteran mail carrier of Martinsburg’s post office who passed away earlier this week.
The caravan drove her mail route one last time, with many residents coming out to pay their respects.
“If you live in Martinsburg, she was on your porch,” said Michael Fahler, a coworker at the post office. “She has delivered every single house in the city; not just in her own route, but every single other route. Every time we fell short, she made sure we didn’t.”
Her death left a significant void among the carriers who worked alongside her, many of whom described her as one of the post office’s most dependable and hardworking employees.
“She was the best worker we had,” said Brian Palmer, another fellow city carrier who worked with Tachoir for 26 years. “She was the shortest carrier we have, and she walked the fastest.”
