Baytown post office operating normally, USPS says after supervisor’s arrest

The U.S. Postal Service says the Baytown Post Office is operating normally and local management has reported no increase in service issues, even as a supervisor faces felony charges for stealing a $3,600 autographed basketball card from the mail and possessing a controlled substance.

“The Postal Service is dedicated to delivering the highest standards of customer service, ensuring that mail and packages arrive in a timely and secure manner,” Kanickewa “Nikki” Johnson, strategic communications specialist for the South Carolina/Texas 2 Districts, said. “Local management at the Baytown Post Office reports no increase in reported service issues but remains vigilant and ready to address any customer concerns.”

The statement follows the June 6 arrest of Kristy Leigh Smillie, 44, also known as Kristy Leigh Sanderson, a supervisor at the 601 West Baker Road facility. She faces charges of theft of property valued at $2,500 to $30,000 and possession of amphetamine, according to Harris County court records. Authorities allege she took an autographed Cooper Flagg rookie card from an outgoing package and tried to sell it on eBay. She was placed on non-duty status and posted bond.
