‘Bad planning, lack of management and understaffing’ | USPS shipping delays traced to Indy distribution hub

INDIANAPOLIS — A month after 13News first reported on delivery delays with the United States Postal Service, customers say it’s still happening.

Over the last several weeks, 13News has received dozens of calls and emails about packages being stuck at the USPS Regional Processing Center on Indianapolis’ east side.

One customer said he watched his package bounce around from different USPS facilities for weeks. It first arrived in Indianapolis on Jan. 8 before being shipped to Fort Wayne and then back to Indy again on Jan. 19, where it has sat since.

So, 13News went to the American Postal Workers Union in Indianapolis for answers.

“Bad planning, lack of management and understaffing. They don’t have the people they need to move the mail,” said Steve Vaughn, the chief trustee with the union. “If you were inside the facility, you would be amazed by the hundreds and hundreds of thousands of packages that are sitting in there, just waiting to be worked.”
