WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Representative Abigail Spanberger backed bipartisan, bicameral legislation to crack down on the rise of violent crimes committed against U.S. Postal Service (USPS) letter carriers.

The Board of Governor’s composition and statutory duties are regulated by a set of bylaws. The Board’s meetings must also be compliant with the Government in the Sunshine Act, which legislates transparency practices such as open session meetings.

Today, Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski (IL-13) led six bipartisan Members of Congress in a call for more transparency from U.S. Postal Service (USPS) Postmaster General Louis DeJoy regarding proposed changes at postal processing, distribution and delivery facilities in Champaign, Springfield and nationwide.

Video shows a masked suspect slipping and falling as he runs toward a mail carrier. He quickly got back up, pointed a gun at the victim, and demanded her universal key, which is used to unlock mailboxes. 

A postal worker was on-duty in Midtown Thursday morning when a suspect approached, dumped coffee on him and beat him in an unprovoked attack, police said.

The U.S. Postal Service today announced its financial results for the third quarter of fiscal year 2024 (Apr. 1, 2024 - Jun. 30, 2024). The net loss for the quarter under generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) totaled $2.5 billion, compared to a net loss of $1.7 billion for the same quarter last year.

Investigators say on that day a man, later identified as Cameron Hunter Brown, 27, of Portsmouth walked up to the postal worker, took out a gun, and robbed the worker.

The U.S. Postal Service said it shifted the majority of mail in Montana that was going through air to ground transport several months ago, but the chief executive of the air transport company said the federal agency relied on bad data to do so.

Police say the suspect threw coffee at the 49-year-old postal worker, and then punched him multiple times throughout the body.
