After five months, Omaha woman’s cremated ashes lost in the mail have been found

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Loved ones grieving over the death of an Omaha woman got another shock earlier this year when the cremated remains went missing in the mail.

Now, half a year later, comes a welcome surprise.

For more than five months, Ron Westphalen rode an emotional rollercoaster since losing the love of his later life.

“We always prayed that there would be a conclusion to this,” he said.

First, grief over the death of close friend Mary Woodrow, then anger that her cremated remains were lost in the mail, and now relief.

“It’s hard to explain how this could happen, but I guess we can believe in prayer and miracles. She’s been found,” Ron said.

In January, the packaged cremated remains went missing after being mailed from Omaha to Mary’s daughter in Louisiana.

“This is tracking information that I can pull up now on this package, and there’s nothing on it prior to June 16. There’s no information,” said daughter Stephani Leguin.

Calls to a Louisiana congresswoman and First Alert 6 emails to the postal service finally paid off.

“I gave up hope, I didn’t think we’d get her, it was five months and we were told the post office gave up, but keep an eye out, and the fact she showed u,p I wonder where she was,” Stephani said.

An answer the postal services has not provided yet, but Stephani said relief and gratitude comes from her heart.
