Here’s Why You Don’t See Anyone Driving Decommissioned Mail Trucks

Check out the auction sites and used car listings, and it’s not hard to find decomissioned cop-spec cars with reinforced brakes and suspension and some stab plates in the front seats (in case your kids are really wild on road trips). It’s easy to find retired FBI Chevy Suburbans, too, as well as sedans used by the fire department. You can even buy an ambulance on sites like GovDeals.com.

But think about this for a moment… have you ever seen someone driving a decommissioned mail truck? Have you ever seen a bakery using a retired USPS vehicle to make their morning deliveries? You might know someone who converted an old school bus into an RV, but can you say the same of the Grumman LLVs used by the post office? So, what gives? Where are all the decommissioned mail trucks? We did a little digging, and here’s what we turned up…
