Care packages for U.S. troops back in transit after USPS reversal

The root of the problem was the original customs form. The phrase “toiletrees pack” was circiled on most of them when they were sent back.

USPS said that was not in line with current regulations, and a “lack of detail on what was being shipped in the packages” led to the delay.

“Filling out these shipping forms is absolutely critical as the security and sanctity of the mail and safety of the general public is of utmost importance to the Postal Service,” a spokesperson wrote. “We worked with Boxes to Boots to obtain clarifying information sufficient to resolve all the export compliance issues. We are picking up the boxes this morning and they will begin their transit to the troops.”

USPS did not address why it decided to work with the group to resend the packages.

Sen. Blumenthal said he’s now aware of similar issues with care packages being returned to individuals and groups across the country. He said he’s submitting legislation that treats packages going to U.S. military stationed overseas as domestic mail.
