COLUMBUS — Ever since he sued the FBI and U.S. Justice Department in federal court over a public records dispute, Sugar Grove resident Andrew Smigelski claims, he has been subjected to harassment and surveillance including interference with his mail. Now Smigelski has gone on the offensive, filing additional federal complaints against the U.S. Postal Service and Amazon.com, Inc.

In his latest court filings, Smigelski asks the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, Eastern Division, to declare that by surveilling him and tampering with his mail the Postal Service and FBI have violated his First and Fourth Amendment rights, and that routing his mail through USPS headquarters in Washington, D.C. “demonstrates high-level government involvement.” He asks the court to enjoin the defendants from engaging in any further surveillance or interference.

He also wants the court to order reinstatement with back pay, benefits, and seniority for anyone who was terminated, demoted or otherwise retaliated against for refusing to take part in the alleged surveillance, questioning its legality, attempting to notify him, cooperating with his lawsuit, acting as a whistleblower, or otherwise resisting these activities.
