Court declines bond reduction for man accused of killing longtime mail carrier

HOUSTON — A Harris County judge declined to reduce bond Tuesday for Jose Humberto Romero, the man charged in connection with a crash that killed beloved postal worker Steve Marks in northwest Houston.

Romero remains held on a $250,000 bond after being charged with intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle. The crash happened Saturday around noon along Antoine Drive when deputies say Romero’s Dodge Ram slammed into the back of a USPS mail truck, pushing it into a tree.

A witness who heard the crash told investigators they removed the key from Romero’s vehicle to stop him from trying to leave the scene.
