USPS Postmaster, Sen. Rounds disagree on answer to slow delivery times

A month ago, we informed you about the hundreds of emails Senator Mike Rounds is receiving regarding these issues, and he has since had conversations with Postmaster General David Steiner. Both agree that delivery times are an issue, but disagree as to whether the current delivery system will work out over time.

Senator Rounds fears the clock is ticking before a persisting issue becomes significantly worse with the winter season. He told Dakota News Now that his conversations with Postmaster Steiner indicated there were some bigger priorities for him.

“Regardless of where their focus may be on larger communities and so forth, we’re not going to allow them to forget about the rural parts of our country. Because if we have problems here within our state, other rural areas have similar problems,” Rounds said.

Right now, a lot of mail coming from South Dakota heads to either Omaha or Fargo, Rounds believes there needs to be less reliance on these out-of-state processing facilities.

South Dakota American Postal Workers Union President Todd West said the service continues to run into these errors, but also feared this may be an attempt to move towards privatization.

So here we go. Steiner apparently told the Senator to go pound sand and that he had bigger issues elsewhere. This doesn’t bode well for the rural western areas of the country. Steiner is apparently in over his head with no idea of what to do to right the ship. Soon the last quarter loss will be released and it’s probably 3 to 5 billion dollars and he won’t say a word other than the status quo about what to do.
