The Postal Service recently held a special dedication ceremony for its Winter Landscapes stamps at INDYPEX, a philatelic show held each year in Danville, IN.
“These stamps highlight the beauty of our natural world,” Zachary Hannon, Indiana District’s Post Office operations manager, said during the ceremony. “They bring back childhood memories of the excitement of seeing a snowy landscape just right for sledding, snowball fights, catching a snowflake on your tongue — or best of all — no school.”
Joining Hannon for the event were three of the five photographers whose work appears on the stamps — Juanita Phillips, John Moore and Carson O’Ffill — and Jay Bigalke, editor-in-chief of Linn’s Stamp News.
The stamps feature five snowy tableaus: Red barns in a white landscape; a rustic fence amid snow-laden trees; ghostly white evergreens; icicles set against a fiery sunset and a home among frosty pines.
They were designed by Ethel Kessler, an art director for USPS, and are available in booklets of 20 at Post Offices and on usps.com.
