Local newspapers say USPS delays are hurting their future

BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) – Newspapers have long been struggling, and they are losing more revenue and subscribers by the day because of late postal service delivery.

Local newspaper publishers are at their wits’ end with late postal deliveries.

“We’ve tried to get any help we can to rectify this problem, and there is no help available to us. We’re just kind of at the mercy of the United States Postal Service,” said Jill Friesz, a newspaper publisher at GS Publishing.

Printed newspapers can be delivered several days or weeks late via mail.

Friesz said she fields multiple calls a day from subscribers angry about late deliveries. She also needs to refund advertisers when ads become outdated.

We’re told that this has been a longstanding issue, and that it’s gotten even worse in the past three weeks. This is likely because the postal service is experiencing labor shortages.
