ORLANDO, Fla. —
A mailbox exploded early Saturday morning in an Orange County neighborhood, leaving residents shaken and a 94-year-old woman afraid to even check her mail.
The incident occurred just after 5 a.m. in Whisper Lakes. Surveillance video captured a car pulling up to the home, followed by a loud explosion that scattered debris across four yards.
Neighbors say the blast was frightening.
“We heard a big crash. It sounded like a plane or a car hit something, so we immediately ran out,” said Edie Castro, a neighbor.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office says someone placed an explosive inside the mailbox and then drove away. Deputies returned to the neighborhood on Wednesday to continue the investigation.
