Port Arthur — A mail carrier making her normal rounds jumped into action while others stood and watched a woman under attack by a pit bull, and a result, Port Arthur police say there is no doubt Genese Robertson “helped save the victim’s life.”
Chief Tim Duriso presented Robertson with a certificate of appreciation Thursday “as a symbol of our respect and admiration for her courageous assistance to a citizen in need on August 11.”
Robertson called 911 that day and said a pit bull was attacking a woman in the 3100 block of 5th Street, and there were a number of bystanders there but not assisting the victim.
The mail carrier sprayed the dog with her pepper spray and bug repellent, which she keeps with her in the event she needs it during her rounds. In this case, they were lifesavers in getting the dog to stop attacking long enough for the victim to get back inside her home.
