Odessa Post Office to Be Renamed for Postal Worker Killed in 2019 Mass Shooting

ODESSA, TX — Today, Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11) introduced legislation to rename the Northeast Odessa United States Post Office in honor of Mary Granados, an Odessa USPS courier and one of the seven people murdered during the August 31st, 2019 mass shooting in the Odessa area.

Once signed into law, this post office will officially be renamed the Mary Granados Memorial Post Office Building.

“Nearly six years ago today, seven innocent lives were taken, and several others were injured, in a horrific mass shooting in the Odessa area,” said Rep. Pfluger. “To ensure we never forget the lives and legacies of the victims, I am introducing this legislation to honor Mary’s life and her dedicated service to the Odessa Post Office. I am incredibly proud of the Odessa and Midland communities for their continued strength and resilience in the aftermath of this tragedy. This renaming will never bring Mary back, but it will ensure she has a lasting imprint on her community for generations to come.”

“We want to sincerely thank Congressman Pfluger and his team for introducing this legislation today in honor of Mary,” said Rosie Granados, Mary’s sister, Liliana Ramos, Mary’s sister, and Rosa Marquez, Mary’s mother. “Mary lost her life doing what she loved: keeping the world connected through letters. She will always be remembered with affection and love.”
