Rep. George Whitesides Demands Answers on Planned Quartz Hill Post Office Closure from Postmaster General

QUARTZ HILL, CA – Today, Rep. George Whitesides (CA-27) sounded the alarm on the potential closing of the Quartz Hill Post Office, demanding answers from Postmaster General David Steiner on the scope, reasoning, and impact of this decision.

“Closing a local, profitable post office that helps tens of thousands of my constituents is completely unacceptable, and will force Quartz Hill residents to travel to another city to access basic postal services, which will cost them time, money, and fuel,” said Rep. Whitesides. “It will also place a burden on the Palmdale and Lancaster post offices, leading to longer wait times and delayed services. We need answers now, which is why I asked the Acting Postmaster to explain why he chose to close this specific location, how many other post offices across the country are affected, and what the economic impact of closing this location will be.”

“We are a veteran owned business that has been a part of this community for 70 years,” said Stan Boylan, owner of the Quartz Hill Post Office. “Over the past few decades, we have seen population increases and additional service demands, and have still consistently delivered top-notch results. We generate one of the highest revenues in the country as a CPU without taking a single cent from American taxpayers, so the notion that this is a matter of saving money just doesn’t add up.”

The USPS, by design, is self-funded, meaning it does not receive operating funds from general tax dollars. In February, President Trump announced that he was preparing to dissolve the leadership of the U.S. Postal Service and absorb the independent mail agency into his administration. In March, Postmaster General Louis DeJoy agreed to allow DOGE to work on “efficiency” within the system, planning cuts of around 10,000 employees and leading to extreme concern over the harms this could cause Americans who rely on postal services.

Rep. Whitesides will continue pursuing all avenues to reverse the closure of the Quartz Hill post office.
