Mail carrier honored with police, postal van procession along Oakland County route

Pleasant Ridge — A longtime postal carrier was honored Thursday as family and colleagues in about 35 postal vehicles were led by a police escort from the Royal Oak Post Office to Pleasant Ridge, where they traced her final mail delivery route.

Pearl Leverette Taylor, 53, died on May 9, according to the House of Johnson Funeral Home in Detroit. No cause of death was listed, and no obituary was posted.

Family and colleagues gathered Thursday morning in the Royal Oak Post Office parking lot, where Pleasant Ridge Police Chief Rob Ried gave instructions and coordinated the memorial procession from downtown Royal Oak to the west side of Pleasant Ridge, the site of Taylor’s last mail delivery route.
