USPS Mail Carrier Rescues Resident From Yorktown Blaze Before Firefighters Arrive

The dramatic rescue happened during a two-alarm fire on Friday, March 28, at around 2:30 p.m., at the Jefferson Village complex on Flintlock Way in Yorktown, according to the Yorktown Heights Volunteer Fire Department.

The fire was first reported by the Westchester County Police Aviation Unit, which saw smoke and flames coming from one of the units. Reports of people possibly trapped inside prompted a fast response from fire crews.

Before crews arrived though, USPS mail carrier Chris Perez spotted the danger on his route and rescued one of the residents from the affected building.

The Yorktown Fire Department praised Perez for his quick thinking, writing on social media, “Kudos to the USPS Mail Courier for making one impressive rescue prior to FD arrival!”
