Rep. Randy Weber reintroduces bill targeting USPS operational failures

U.S. Rep. Randy Weber last week reintroduced a bill seeking to renew efforts to hold the U.S. Postal Service accountable for operational failures.

House of Representatives Bill 1760 would require the Comptroller General of the United States to submit an annual report to Congress for five years, detailing nationwide trends in postal theft, mail delays, internal employee violations and violations requiring investigation by the Postal Inspection Service.

The reports would be submitted to the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability and the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.

Weber on Feb. 27 introduced the bill, where it was referred to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

“For too long, our constituents have been left in the dark while mail theft, delivery delays, and even misconduct within USPS continue to rise,” Weber said. “The American people deserve transparency and accountability from an institution they rely on daily.”

“This bill will force USPS to address these failures, report on their efforts, and take real action to restore trust in our postal system.”

This is Weber’s second time introducing such legislation.
