APWU Pres. Dimondstein On the Airwaves Against Illegal USPS Takeover

On Friday major news outlets began reporting that President Trump plans an illegal takeover of the United States Postal Service. In response, APWU President Mark Dimondstein took to the airwaves to show what is at stake.

On Inside with Jen Psaki, Mark shared how the United States Postal Service is a truly democratic service that allows everyone, no matter who they are or where they live, to communicate, do business and even vote.. He shined a spotlight on the fact that moving the Postal Service under the Commerce Department is the first step to dismantling and selling off this cherished national treasure for profit.

Then on Sunday, Mark joined Rev. Al Sharpton on PoliticsNation to reiterate that the public Postal Service is an essential part of the fabric of the country, the low-cost anchor of the growing e-commerce industry, and a source of good, living wage, union jobs for our communities. Moving to dismantle the Postal Service is purely a greedy, profit-driven action that would harm rural delivery and drive up prices.

Billionaires like Howard Lutnick and Elon Musk would love to get their hands on the public Postal Service for their own profit. Make no mistake, this illegal attempt at a takeover will be the first step toward shifting control of the post office to private, profit-driven interests. The American people deserve a Postal Service that remains true to its public mission.
