U.S. Postal Service audit reveals significant delays, operational issues in several Alabama cities

An audit by the U.S. Postal Service has revealed significant mail delays and operational issues in the Alabama-Mississippi district, particularly in Center Point, Northport, and Tuscaloosa.

The audit noted that none of the three branches used ‘Undelivered Mail Report’ forms to record delayed mail

Carriers in Center Point sometimes brought back undelivered mail without recording it, with management reporting that they weren’t aware of the forms.

The Northport postmaster noted multiple medical absences during the audit period, highlighting management shortages that led to the use of the form not being enforced.

The Tuscaloosa postmaster attributed delivery delays to employee shortages, including vacancies, carriers on leave, and supervisor shortages also leading to a lack of enforcement of using the form.
