Former Waterbury postman to face sentencing for wire fraud

WATERBURY – A former postal service driver who scammed the government out of $85,000 by using a USPS fuel card as his personal ATM is set to face a judge next week.

Lindim Asipi, 47, of Waterbury, will appear in U.S. District Court in New Haven on Nov. 19 to face sentencing for a wire fraud scheme.

According to court documents, the Postal Service provided Asipi with a credit card that enabled him to purchase fuel. Between January 2019 and June 2020, Asipi conducted several hundred fraudulent transactions with the credit card to obtain cash from gas stations without purchasing fuel.

To execute these fraudulent transactions, Asipi used his assigned personal identification number, as well as the PIN of another USPS driver who was unaware of Asipi’s scheme.
