Upgrades showcased at USPS Terre Haute facility

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A $40 billion investment by the U.S. Postal Service across the nation was showcased at the Terre Haute Sorting and Delivery Center on Wednesday.

This is all a part of its Delivering for America 10-year plan. This investment replaced old vehicles with newer and safer ones, some of which are electric vehicles.

It also updated the facility, including the addition of new innovative machinery. Mark Inglett, the Strategic Communication Manager at USPS, says these updates will make the process of getting packages to their destination much faster.

“The machine reads the barcode as it goes under the belt and as you can see, down each side of the machine we have over 80 routes in this facility alone. We get those packages worked at a rate of up to 5,000 an hour. The clerks get the mail-work sooner. The carriers get on the street sooner. We can get those packages home to our folks much sooner,” Inglett said.

He adds the Delivering for America plan is also an investment in its employees by creating a more efficient work environment.
