New USPS Mail Carrier Uses Ford Steering Wheel, Cluster

Ever since Oshkosh Defense debuted the all-new, Next Generation Delivery Vehicle (NGDV) that will replace the ages-old Grumman Long Life Vehicle (LLV) in the United States Postal Service (USPS) fleet, we’ve known that this new mail carrier was slated to utilize a number of Ford-sourced components. That includes the NGDV’s 2.0L I-4 powerplant, along with transmissions, suspension parts, and various other bits and pieces that were largely unknown, at least until now, as some new photos show off a few more Blue Oval parts present in the all-new delivery vehicle.

For now at least, most of the NGDV models hitting USPS locations utilize the aforementioned Ford 2.0L I-4 gas engine, though eventually, the Post Office plans to transition to an all-electric lineup, with a goal of reaching a 75 percent electrified mix by 2026. To help bridge that gap, USPS also recently purchased a substantial 9,000 all-electric Ford E-Transit vans from the automaker, too.
