Calls for protection of postal workers continue after Chicago mail carrier murder

(WTVO) — Calls for postal worker protections grow louder following the deadly shooting of a mail carrier in Chicago.

Chicago is not the only city that is upset about the amount of protection mail carriers have. Rockford citizens have also had enough when it comes to violence against mail carriers.

Thursday, the Illinois State Association along with Rockford United Labor will be hosting the “Enough is Enough” rally.

On July 19th, Octavia Redman, 48, was making her deliveries on Chicago’s South Side when she was shot. Police released video of the suspect wearing all black during the incident.

The Letter Carriers Union wants federal lawmakers to pass the Protect Our Letter Carriers Act, which would, among other things, enhance sentencing guidelines for anyone convicted of committing a crime against a letter carrier.
