Woman dies inside USPS Palmetto facility, medical examiner confirms

A woman died inside the United States Postal Service’s Palmetto facility on Sunday, Aug. 18, the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed with 11Alive.

The medical examiner’s office said that 48-year-old Sharon Barnes was found dead inside the facility at 600 Palmetto Logistics Parkway. USPS confirmed the woman was a postal worker with the company.

A USPS spokesperson released the following statement to 11Alive following the death of one of its postal workers at the facility:

“The Postal Service is deeply saddened by the loss of our postal family member. Our condolences and thoughts go out to our employee’s family, friends, and co-workers.”

The mail processing facility in Palmetto has garnered headlines for the past several months for its overwhelming mail backups that led to months of delays for residents across metro Atlanta.

11Alive is working to learn the cause of death of the woman.
