Rep. Craig Slams USPS Q3 Numbers as Service Levels Continue to Decline

EAGAN, MN – Today, U.S. Representative Angie Craig slammed U.S. Postal Service leadership after the agency’s FY 2024 third quarter report showed a continued decline in service levels for Minnesota.

In Q3, service standard for first-class two-day service in the Minnesota-North Dakota region showed 83.3% of mail arriving on time, about 10 points below USPS’ target of 93% on-time delivery.

In Q1, the region ranked 40th in the nation for two-day service. In Q2 it ranked 42nd. The MN-ND region currently ranks 43rd in the nation for two-day service.

“Clearly whatever steps regional USPS leadership have been taking to get service levels back on track are not working. I look forward to discussing these latest numbers with USPS Regional leadership, because we need solutions and we need them now,” said Rep. Craig.

Earlier this summer, a damning USPS Inspector General report showed widespread issues with USPS management in Minnesota, citing nearly 100,000 pieces of delayed mail in the facilities they visited on one day alone.

The report also tracked comments by customers about delivery issues including no mail for several days in a row, incomplete mail delivery and delivery messages for packages that had not actually been delivered. The report also highlighted a shortage of 551 employees across the MN-ND district.

Rep. Craig has led the bipartisan charge to improve mail service in Minnesota for over two years.
