Arrest made in Oceanside hit-and-run crash that left postal carrier dead

A 26-year-old Riverside man was arrested Friday morning in connection with a hit-and-run crash in March that left a bicyclist dead, Oceanside police said.

The 11:35 p.m. collision was reported near the intersection of state Route 76 and Singh Way on March 17, police said. The victim, mother of two and postal carrier Tracey Gross, died of her injuries the next day.

The driver involved fled the scene. Police initially suspected the motorist lived locally, but the investigation led officers to Corona, where Christian Howard was arrested at his workplace about 9 a.m.

Howard was booked into Vista jail and faces charges including gross vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run resulting in death.
