USPS: All packages in Birmingham have been processed, apologizes for delays

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – The U.S. Postal Service has issued an update regarding the mail backlog in Birmingham that customers and some employees have been complaining about. A USPS spokesperson said that the packages have been processed and they apologize to customers who may have experienced a delay.

A man who runs a tow truck business in Memphis wrote a letter to WBRC to express his frustration. He claims that he has received refunds from the postal service because his mail was not delivered. He stated that most of his mailings are certified, which was once the most secure form of mailing. He also shared documents showing that USPS has refunded him a little more $6 multiple times for several months since last March. The reciepts he shared equaled $91.01.

Customers in different states have reported that their packages stop in Birmingham and remain there for days before being delivered. Larry Preston, one of the affected customers, frequently sends packages through USPS and has experienced delays.

“7-10 days to go not even 100 miles. It’s very frustrating,” says Preston.

Some employees have anonymously contacted WBRC about issues at the Birmingham mail sorting facility. One employee claimed that they delivered Christmas cards from last year as late as Valentine’s Day this year.
