Former South Bend postal carrier sentenced to probation after mail discarded

A former South Bend postal carrier has been sentenced to 12 months probation after more than 5-thousand pieces of mail were recovered.

Tyra Johnson was employed by the United States Postal Service in November of 2022.

That mail was found discarded in trash bags in an alleyway.

She said she become overwhelmed by her four routes and could not get all the mail delivered.
