Post Office in Plains to be named after former President Carter and his wife

Plans to rename the post office have been in the works since before Jimmy Carter died. Now, he and his wife will be honored posthumously.

PLAINS, Ga. — The Carters’ legacy continues to grow in their hometown of Plains.

On Wednesday, July 2, Former President Jimmy Carter and First Lady Rosalynn Carter’s names will adorn the Plains, Georgia, post office.

The ceremony comes months after U.S. Rep. Sanford Bishop introduced H.R. 9600, which designated the U.S. Postal Service on Main Street in Plains as the “Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter” Post Office.
