43 years strong, Rainey still not planning retirement from USPS

Well, today, Oct. 2, 2025, the day the U.S. Postal Service will be delivering your Phelps County Focus to you, Rainey will observe his 43rd year with the U.S. Postal Service, and he’ll be working.

Is he thinking about retiring?

“Well, I’ve been thinking about what it might be like,” he said. “But no, not really.”

Bob Rainey likes to work because he likes people. He likes the people he works with in the post office, and he likes the people he works for, the customers.

For many years, Rainey was a familiar and friendly face at the counter. Lately, though, he has been needed in the back, sorting mail. He works where he is needed and can be of service.

It’s been that way for longer than 43 years.
