3 injured after crash in South Memphis involving mail truck

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Police were investigating a crash early Thursday morning in South Memphis that involved a mail truck, a blown-out transformer and vehicle debris in the street and along the curb.

The crash was reported around 2:15 a.m. near Mississippi Boulevard and Race Street, according to the Memphis Police Department (MPD).

FOX13 arrived to a chaotic scene. This included a badly damaged mail truck, a transformer sparking in the air and pieces of the vehicles involved left scattered along the intersection.

MPD told FOX13 that officers tried to pull over the driver of a white Infiniti, who swerved around a sedan and ran a red light. The Infiniti then struck the mail truck, which, police said, had the right away.

A utility pole was knocked down in the crash, police said.

In all, three people were injured. MPD said the driver and a passenger in the Infiniti were left in critical condition, while the mail truck driver was expected to be OK.

No other details were released.
